Type 1 Diabetes Awareness Month Drive Type 1 Diabetes Awareness

Hello Staff and Students! It’s almost November and that means Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) Month. Ms Mann’s 8th grade PBL will be collecting your extra or unwanted wrapped Halloween candy for people with type 1 diabetes.

People with T1D sometimes need snacks like candy FAST when their blood sugar runs low. Candy CAN save the life of a person with T1D.

After Halloween, please bring in any wrapped candy that you don’t like, don’t want or just want to donate to help kids with Type 1 Diabetes.

Your donated wrapped Halloween candy will be collected and sorted out to make bags of candy for teachers to help keep kids with T1D safe at RA Jones and Collins Elementary.

Please drop off your extra, wrapped Halloween candy to Ms Mann’s room (116) or look for the bins around school. Every little bit helps so bring in your unwanted or extra wrapped Halloween candy after you go Trick or Treating on Tuesday, October 31.

Solar Eclipse

Important Information about the Solar Eclipse

On Monday August 21st, 2017 we will experience a total solar eclipse, an event that hasn’t occurred over the U.S. mainland since 1979.  A total solar eclipse, which is when the moon completely covers the sun, will occur across 14 states in the continental U.S. along a 70-mile-wide swath of the country.  While Boone County is not located in this area, we will still be able to view the partial solar eclipse.

This event will be an extraordinary educational opportunity for our students.  Many of our schools will have special activities or lessons planned for this day to accompany the event.  While this event is extremely exciting for our students, we must also acknowledge the importance of proper eye safety.  While it should be common sense not to stare directly at the sun with your naked eyes, this advice will be even more important during this event.  The eclipse must be viewed only through proper eclipse glasses.  Schools with planned viewing activities will require students to wear proper solar eclipse glasses.

In order to protect our students’ eyes during this event:

  • Students will not participate in any unstructured outdoor activities, including recess
  • Students will be advised to not look directly at the sun without wearing solar eclipse glasses
  • We will provide additional personnel until 4pm for parents who do not want their children riding the bus during the eclipse.Children who do not ride the bus for that reason will have to be picked up by parents at 4pm.
Welcome Back Shaun Alexander

What a treat for those at Jones Middle School today when Shaun Alexander, and family, showed up to visit his old stomping ground.  He was thrilled at what he saw and the wonderful changes yet to come!  Keep checking in!  You never know when you might see him return!!!  Once a Jet, Always a Jet!!!

Per the District Assessment Coordinator (DAC):

This is a reminder that teachers and students are not to have their cell phones out during K-Prep testing.  This would be a testing violation.  If there is an emergency, you should use the phone in the classroom.  Teachers should not be communicating with anyone while testing is occurring.  Any teacher needing assistance with a situation in the classroom should contact the BAC or building administrators for assistance.

At Jones Middle School we request that students keep their cell phones at home or in their lockers (TURNED OFF). Students should not be going to their lockers to get their cell phone until after ALL students are completed with testing, when the announcement is made. Teachers are asked to keep their cell phones turned off and kept away (car/desk/front office).
