Several Collins Elementary students were selected to throw a pie in the face of their teacher. Ten teachers and staff members agreed to be the targets. This was the culminating event for a Penny War. The money collected was used by the Leading the Way Club to purchase items for Pooky Pouches for foster children. The students collected nearly $600!

Boone County Schools Statement on Copy-Cat Threats logo

Boone County Schools is one of many school districts across the country that is being subjected to copy- cat threats of the school tragedy in Florida.  We are working with local authorities as they investigate a recent rash of rumors and threats on our campuses.  Student suspects in each of the cases were immediately identified and apprehended.  They were charged by local authorities and disciplined by their schools.   In each case a thorough investigation was conducted by the school district and authorities.  No student or staff member was ever in danger. Confidentiality laws prevent Boone County Schools from talking about the persons involved or the specifics of the incidents. Boone County Schools will continue to remain on alert, following our safety protocols and working with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and Florence Police as future issues arise.

First day of School

Welcome Back!  The 2016-17 school year has begun and we would like to wish you and your students a successful year.

The Transportation Department has worked diligently this summer to provide a safe environment for all our students with training for all drivers and aides.  It is our goal to provide a quality service to the community. We have established high standards of training, maintenance and conduct for each employee and we will provide the safest environment possible for each student in our care and strive to maintain our schedule of services.

Just a reminder to all parents/guardians – the buses could be running up to 20 minutes behind schedule during the first days of schools as the drivers are learning their new routes and new students.  We ask that you please have patience before calling the department with concerns regarding your student arriving home during these first few days.

Solar Eclipse

eclipse

Important Information about the Solar Eclipse

On Monday August 21st, 2017 we will experience a total solar eclipse, an event that hasn’t occurred over the U.S. mainland since 1979.  A total solar eclipse, which is when the moon completely covers the sun, will occur across 14 states in the continental U.S. along a 70-mile-wide swath of the country.  While Boone County is not located in this area, we will still be able to view the partial solar eclipse.

This event will be an extraordinary educational opportunity for our students.  Many of our schools will have special activities or lessons planned for this day to accompany the event.  While this event is extremely exciting for our students, we must also acknowledge the importance of proper eye safety.  While it should be common sense not to stare directly at the sun with your naked eyes, this advice will be even more important during this event.  The eclipse must be viewed only through proper eclipse glasses.  Schools with planned viewing activities will require students to wear proper solar eclipse glasses.

In order to protect our students’ eyes during this event:

  • Students will not participate in any unstructured outdoor activities, including recess
  • Students will be advised to not look directly at the sun without wearing solar eclipse glasses
  • We will provide additional personnel until 4pm for parents who do not want their children riding the bus during the eclipse.Children who do not ride the bus for that reason will have to be picked up by parents at 4pm.
