Inclement Weather I Weather

Bundle Up: Parents PLEASE make sure that your child is bundled up and sent to school with coats, hats, and gloves. If you need any of these things please let us know and we will do our best to assist or send you in the right direction to getting the supplies needed. As a practice, we will not be letting any students go outside (when weather warrants) if they do not have a coat to keep them warm.

Boone County's Inclement Weather Policy: Attached is Boone County's Policy for Inclement weather. We know that making arrangements at the last minute can be tough, but sometimes it is in those last moments when the weather changes. Those that are making the decision have a lot to weigh, and we do promise that the safety of students and staff members are taken into consideration.

Boone County Schools Grading Scale grades

During the 2016-2017 school year, Boone County Schools reviewed the board policy for grading (08.221). A revision to the grading policy was enacted in May 2017 based on multiple meetings throughout the year to analyze and evaluate local, regional, and national data surrounding grading scales and their impact on student success.
The grading scale changes directly affect all students in grades 4-12. Details of the changes are listed below.
Boone County PREVIOUS Grading Scale:
● 94-100 = A
● 87-93=B
● 86-78=C
● 77-70=D
● Below 70 failing grade
Boone County Schools NEW Grading Scale Effective July 1, 2017:
● 90-100 = A
● 80-89 = B
● 70-79 = C
● Below 70 is “I” for INCOMPLETE until June 30 of the academic year. Students with an “I” will be provided support by the school to remediate learning to reach a 70. If the grade is still listed as an “I” after June 30, then it becomes a failing grade.
This new grading scale provides comparability of student achievement between Boone County Schools and that of many other districts across the nation.

Solar Eclipse

Important Information about the Solar Eclipse

On Monday August 21st, 2017 we will experience a total solar eclipse, an event that hasn’t occurred over the U.S. mainland since 1979.  A total solar eclipse, which is when the moon completely covers the sun, will occur across 14 states in the continental U.S. along a 70-mile-wide swath of the country.  While Boone County is not located in this area, we will still be able to view the partial solar eclipse.

This event will be an extraordinary educational opportunity for our students.  Many of our schools will have special activities or lessons planned for this day to accompany the event.  While this event is extremely exciting for our students, we must also acknowledge the importance of proper eye safety.  While it should be common sense not to stare directly at the sun with your naked eyes, this advice will be even more important during this event.  The eclipse must be viewed only through proper eclipse glasses.  Schools with planned viewing activities will require students to wear proper solar eclipse glasses.

In order to protect our students’ eyes during this event:

  • Students will not participate in any unstructured outdoor activities, including recess
  • Students will be advised to not look directly at the sun without wearing solar eclipse glasses
  • We will provide additional personnel until 4pm for parents who do not want their children riding the bus during the eclipse.Children who do not ride the bus for that reason will have to be picked up by parents at 4pm.

SBDM Parent Elections sbdm

Every two years, the parents of the school elect SBDM representatives - these Representatives are parents of students in New Haven that help facilitate decisions to help improve student learning.  These decisions, in correlation with school administrators and several elected teachers, create a process where all interest groups (educators, administrators, principals, staff, parents and community) can work as a team to enhance student learning.

If you are interested in running or for a position please read the Parent SBDM Interest Form and fill out the nomination form with your resume attached and have it postmarked to school by April 7, 2017.  Meetings are monthly after school, day of the week still to be determined, and there is a training you must attend over the summer.
