CEMS Blazing Archers Archery Team
Try Out Information
Watch the CEMS Webpage beginning September 1st for Sign-up links.
Students wanting to try out for the 2017-18 Blazing Archery Team will be able to come to school and practice on 2 days in the archery range (MP ROOM) on 9/19/17 and 9/21/17 from 2:30-5:00. This time is for those who are trying out for the 2017-18 archer team only. During this time you can have flight time and coaches will be there to assist you if you if needed. You will be able to sign up for one day (30 minute session) by going to the CEMS Webpage to register. It is asked that to try out that you meet the following criteria. Try outs will follow the next week. You will need to attend 2 days for try-outs.
- You need to have attended Archery Camp or Archery Lessons (Camp Ernst Middle or M&M Archery or Other Archery Range)
- You were a member of the 2016-17 Blazing Archers Team/Club.
- You are a member of the 4H Sharp Shooters.
- You have experience/safety classes using bow and arrow. (Must be able to demonstrate Safety Measures while handling and shooting bow.)
For those who do not meet the criteria above, we don’t want you to miss out on archery. We will again this year have Club! If you are interested in learning how to become an archer, please sign up on the CEMS Webpage. Being a member on the Club doesn’t mean you miss out on team…if we see that you have the skills to be on team, we can possibly move you up!
Try Outs for 2017-18 School Year
Students trying out for Archery MUST also have a current KHSAA Physical Form to turn in before students will be allowed to try out. If your child does not have their physical form, they will not be allowed to try out.
Try Outs will be on TBD (Please check the CEMS Website for Dates/Times…we are still finalizing for next year).
Students will have flight time for 30 minutes each night. The first night will be 10 meter and the second time will be 15 meter. All students wishing to try out for the Blazing Archers Team must attend both days. Students will be scored on the following:
- Form (Stance/Follow Through/Anchoring)
- Score (10 and 15 meter)
- Focus (Ability to stay on target)
- Coachable (Ability to follow directions and coaching)
- Should be able to draw 20lb bow without little to any resistance
Coaches will be watching archers and scoring them based on the 5 criteria above. Students who do not meet the above criteria and are not selected for TEAM are advised to join the CLUB. We will be watching and working with the coaches working with those students and it’s always a possibility that we will move students up to TEAM.
Coaches will post Team Members the week following try-outs or sooner. Coach’s decision is final. There will be a limited amount of spots and those spots will be filled with archers who we feel meet the criteria above. Parents and Team Members will be required to attend Mandatory Meeting once team members are listed.
*You do not need to have your own bow for archery. All materials and equipment will be supplied (excluding gloves).
**Reminder…Students may use their own bows....they are only to use Genesis Original Bows with NO ALTERATIONS. If they are camo, the camo must be covered on the view side.
