Former Assistant Principal of Ryle High School, Matt Shafer, will now serve as Principal. He has been selected for the position vacated by Matt Turner who has accepted the position of Superintendent of Boone County Schools
Mr. Shafer has been Assistant Principal at Ryle for two years. He came to Ryle after serving as Assistant Principal then Principal of Pendleton County High School in Falmouth from 2015 to 2018. He started his career coaching football, girls basketball, and track. He was also a teacher, teaching Social Studies and U.S. History.
Matt Shafer graduated from Princeton High School in Cincinnati. His undergraduate degree is in History and Social Studies from Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. He holds a Masters of Secondary Education and a Masters in Education Administration, both also from Union College.
Mr. Shafer’s selection as Principal of Northern Kentucky’s largest high school was supported with a very important recommendation from his former boss, former Principal Matt Turner. Mr. Turner says of Mr. Shafer, “Mr. Shafer has always exhibited to me a strong sense of integrity, a clear understanding of teaching and coaching young adults, a reliable moral compass, and a love of other people, especially students. Overall, Matt has performed exceptionally well as an educator and administrator at Larry A. Ryle High School and is certainly qualified, ready, and deserving of this position.”
Education runs in the Shafer family. Matt’s lovely wife, Jobeth Shafer, is an 8th grade Science teacher. They have one son, Nolan.
