PARENT SURVEY 2018 (Parents, please tell us about your child)
Welcome to 8th Grade English/Language Arts (ELA) for the Conquistador Team
I am thrilled to be a member of the Conquistador Team and a staff member at CEMS. While my educational endorsements include Social Studies and Technology, I love teaching students how to say what they mean and help them express themselves in ways they may have never considered or thought possible. I place a huge emphasis on thinking and then responding by writing or speaking. Critical Thinking Skills are, in my opinion, a cornerstone skill for 21st Century learners. My goal is to make myself unnecessary by the end of the year. I want students to be confident, independent learners and my goals and objectives for them reflect this. I encourage them to take care of their own business so I don't need to. :)
I will be the first to admit I am not a perfect person; however, I am a reasonable person and am willing to help students reach their potential. If you feel your student is struggling for the first time and this is unusual, let me know. If your student always struggles with English or writing, let me know. Like I tell the students, I can't read their minds and I can't work to address what I don't know exists. Some students are natural readers/writers and others are not. Some enjoy Language Arts class while others simply do not. I don't expect all students to love my subject matter, but I do expect them to put forth effort and try to the best of their abilities. Communication and support from school and home are vital for a student's success.
Should you have a question or concern, please contact me via email for the quickest response. My planning time is early in the day between 9:45 and 11:00 am daily. While I don't mind phone calls, my most available and quickest method of communication is email. My email and phone information are at the top of this page. Should you wish to arrange a team meeting, as team leader I can schedule that as well.
I look forward to working with your student(s) this year!
